Joni Lui, born and raised in Toronto, is a photo-based artist who specializes in both film and digital colour photography. She often explores with intangible concepts that may or may not have concrete, physical manifestations. She often investigates the concept of time, nostalgia, and the documentation and exploration of dreams. She is very much interested in how one call tell the difference between reality and fiction.

As a part-time freelance commercial photographer, Joni has slowly shifted her photography studies and art making into a conceptually based genre. Her first exhibition was in the Toronto Outdoor Exhibition in 2007 amongst hundreds of fellow artists. After that, she has shown her work in Whippersnapper, The Lennox Contemporary Gallery, Paul Petro, and many more.

Her most notable achievement is winning the Mobile City photo competition in 2008, a joint initiative of the Italian Chamber of Commerce of Toronto, the city of Toronto, and the Province of Milan. She won a trip to Milan for further photography studies, and exhibited in the Museo di Fotografia Contemporanea. She was also published in the Mobile City book.
